Heavy rainfall forecast for Andhra
Hyderabad, Sep 3 Heavy rains may occur in some parts of Rayalaseema region and four districts of coastal region of Andhra Pradesh over the next two days, the weather office said today.
The Meteorological Department issued a warning for occurrence of isolated heavy to very heavy rains over Rayalaseema and in the districts of Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore of coastal Andhra.
The Met also forecast isolated heavy rains in the districts of Mahabubnagar, Khammam and Nalgonda of Telangana region in the state and in the remaining districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh during the same period.
The state as a whole has received 27 per cent excess rainfall as of today by recording 629.8 mm as against normal rainfall of 495.4 mm, disaster management authorities said.
In view of heavy rains, the reservoirs across the state were also brimming.
Chopper carrying AP minister suffers technical problem
Hyderabad, Sept 3 A technical problem in a helicopter today forced Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah to abruptly abandon his air travel and continue his journey by road, police said.
The minister, who set off in a private helicopter from Hyderabad, was scheduled to visit different irrigation projects in Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts of the state.
According to police, the minister first visited the Sriramsagar project (SRSP) in Nizamabad district following which he proceeded towards Karimnagar.
But due to some problem, the helicopter had to land shortly after take-off from a helipad near SRSP area at around 11.30 am and after a thorough checking the chopper took off subsequently in about 10 minutes towards Karimnagar district, a senior police officer told PTI over phone from Nizamabad.
Delhi to have 42 Info-cafes to help tourists during CWG
New Delhi, Sep 3 Delhi will have 42 information kiosks-cum-food counters installed by a private firm to make the city “more hospitable” for tourists during the Commonwealth Games.
City-based Ved Pohoja Associates today said it is setting up the kiosks, branded ‘Tourist Info-Cafes,’ in several areas across the capital with support from civic agencies like MCD and NDMC.
“Our primary aim was to create a brand for Delhi and to help tourists carry good memories of Delhi even after the Games. For this, we have drawn people from diverse professions including hospitality, architecture, finance consultancy and designing,” said designer Ved Pohoja, who has conceived the project.
Rains hit northern India, five die
New Delhi, Sep 3 Heavy rains over vast swatches of northern India brought down mercury levels considerably today while triggering landslides and claiming lives in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Two children died in a wall-collapse in Azamgarh, while two persons were struck by lightning in Hardoi and Sant Kabir Nagar districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The Central Water Commission said the Ganga, Ramganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghaghara and Rapti were above the danger mark as Sultanpur received 48.4 mm rainfall followed by 38.6 mm in Palliakalan in Kheri district in the state.
All major rivers in Uttarakhand, where one girl died due to heavy rains last night, were also touching the red mark.
Overnight rains triggered a landslide in Chamoli district, snapping the road link to Badrinath.
Heavy rains lashed the national capital where the maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius and minimum 26.8 degrees.
